Refrigerant is the medium that absorbs and transfers heat, making it a key component of any heat pump. The choice of refrigerant is critically important as it affects efficiency, cost, safety and environmental impact.
R290 (propane) is a natural refrigerant with an extremely low global warming potential (GWP=3). It provides higher efficiency and is fully eco-friendly, but requires special safety precautions due to flammability.
R32 is a modern synthetic refrigerant with a moderate GWP=675. It is more efficient than its predecessor R410A, easier to transport and service, and is today the most common refrigerant in mid-range heat pumps.
For residential use, R32 systems offer the optimal balance between efficiency and ease of installation. R290 is recommended for those who put environmental friendliness first — for example, in the Termojet Sunglow and Hi-Master V series.
